Traffic Stop Leads to Major Methamphetamine Seizure and Prison Sentence
In March 2025, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers conducted a traffic stop on Jack Tone Road for a vehicle speeding. The driver, Jose Vallarta Olea, was found to be transporting narcotics after a K9 unit alerted to the presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 38 kilograms of methamphetamine, packaged in kilo-sized bricks and concealed in a hidden trunk compartment. A minor child was also present in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Olea later pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- Health & Safety Code § 11379 – Transportation of methamphetamine for sale
- Health & Safety Code § 11370.4(b)(1)(B) – Possession of methamphetamine exceeding 4 kilograms
He was sentenced to 8 years in state prison.
“This case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by large-scale drug trafficking,” said Ron Freitas, San Joaquin County District Attorney. “The presence of a child in the vehicle makes the conduct even more egregious. We are grateful to CHP for their vigilant enforcement that helped prevent these dangerous drugs from reaching our communities.”
