60 Years to Life: District Attorney’s Office Announces Sentencing in Tragic 2022 Murder and Home Invasion
San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced that Frederick Wesley has been sentenced to 60 years to life in state prison. The sentencing marks the conclusion of a violent March 2022 case that began with a hotel shooting in Lodi and ended in a fatal Stockton apartment invasion.
Wesley’s conviction follows a series of escalating crimes where he terrorized a family and four young children. What began as a chaotic shooting at a Lodi hotel spiraled into a nightmare for a Stockton family as Wesley invaded their home, holding children at gunpoint and turning a place of sanctuary into a scene of terror. When Tyrone Deloney and Jozette Huerta stepped in to protect their loved ones, Wesley opened fire, killing Deloney and critically wounding Huerta.
District Attorney Ron Freitas issued the following statement:
“When a family is cornered and children are in danger, we look for a hero to step up. Tyrone Deloney was that hero, and he gave everything to keep his family safe. There is no place in our community for this kind of heartless violence, and today, the justice system made that clear. This 60-year sentence means Frederick Wesley has run out of chances to hurt people. My heart goes out to the family, and I hope they can sleep a little easier tonight knowing this man will likely never see the outside of a prison cell again.”
District Attorney Freitas offers a special thank you to Deputy District Attorney Janet Smith for her exceptional work in prosecuting this case and securing a life sentence.
The District Attorney also extends his gratitude to the Stockton Police Department for their investigation; Paralegal Alexis Soto and Legal Intern Taif Mardini; and Victim Witness Advocates Hope Dunsing and Jennifer Nakagawa. Additional thanks are given to the Stanislaus County advocates and their therapy dog for providing critical comfort to the victims during court proceedings.
