CHIEF DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Chief Beth O'Hara serves as the Chief Deputy District Attorney overseeing the Homicide and Conviction Integrity Teams. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from California State University, Chico, in 1992, and her law degree from Humphrey’s School of Law in 1996.

Chief O'Hara began her career with the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office in 1998, where she served until 2017. Throughout her tenure, she handled a wide range of cases, including crimes against children, gang-related offenses, narcotics, and hate crimes. However, her passion has always been prosecuting domestic violence and homicide cases.

In 2017, she joined the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office, working for the Homicide and Officer Involved Shooting teams until 2020.

Over her career, she has completed nearly 100 jury trials, including 8 murder trials.

From 2021 to 2023, Chief O'Hara served as advisory counsel to the Sheriff, Probation, and District Attorney’s offices for Stanislaus County Counsel before briefly returning to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s office to assist with training and trial work. In 2024, she rejoined San Joaquin County as Chief Deputy.

In 2013, the National District Attorney’s Association nominated her to observe pre-trial hearings of the 9/11 enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay, representing surviving family members. She is also active with the Family Justice Center, advocating for victims of abuse.

Chief O'Hara has two grown children.
