Save Mart chain to pay $1.6M to resolve sale of expired products claim

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announces that on May 23, 2024, Save Mart Supermarkets, LLC, and their affiliated stores agreed to pay a $1.6 million settlement in a civil complaint brought forth in coordination with the District Attorney’s Offices in San Joaquin, Solano, El Dorado, Marin, Sonoma, and Yolo counties.

Jury Finds Steven Martinez Guilty of Murder and Burglary

District Attorney Ron Freitas announced today that a jury found Steven Martinez, 59, of Stockton, guilty of one count of murder (Penal Code section §187), one count of residential burglary (Penal Code section §459), and two special circumstance allegations (Penal Code section §190.2) murder in the commission of a burglary and murder in the commission of torture of Mary Sellars, a 57-year-old resident of Stockton, in February of 2020.

San Joaquin District Attorney's Office Secures Guilty Plea in Copper Wire Theft Case

The San Joaquin District Attorney's Office announced today that Alvaro Cruz Lopez has plead guilty to violating multiple sections of the Penal Code related to copper wire theft. Lopez admitted to violating Penal Code sections 487j (theft of copper wire), 12022.1 (committing a felony while on bail or O/R), 496 (possession of stolen property), and an aggravating factor 4.421(a)(9) (loss of great monetary value).
