Protecting our community for 175 Years
Ronald J. Freitas is the 42nd District Attorney to lead San Joaquin County’s chief law enforcement agency. This administration maintains a zero-tolerance approach to prosecuting criminals, working with local, state, and federal partners to create a safe and secure San Joaquin County for everyone.
"The mission of the District Attorney's Office is to bring justice and closure to victims of crime."
“True public safety requires a collaboration
between law enforcement and the community.” - Betsy Hodges
San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced that Salvador Reyes was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for two counts of rape by force (PC 261(A)(2)), domestic battery (PC 243(E)(1)), and driving under the influence (VC 23152(B)) in Judge Lance Jacot’s courtroom. The sentence follows Reyes’ guilty plea on March 17, 2025.
On April 24, 2024, Reyes violently assaulted his stepdaughter at a Stockton bus drop-off, slamming her head into his truck’s dashboard. He fled after attacking his wife but was later arrested with a BAC of 0.14%. Released on his own recognizance, Reyes failed to appear in court, leading to a bench warrant. While evading justice, he violated a restraining order, and the victim disclosed two years of sexual assaults. Reyes confessed, falsely claiming a consensual relationship.
District Attorney Ron Freitas stated, “As a parent, my heart breaks for this young girl’s suffering. Her bravery in coming forward and our team’s fight for justice have locked away a monster for 20 years. We’ll always stand up for victims like her.”
Special thanks go to Deputy District Attorney Victor Bachand for his dedicated prosecution, as well as the Stockton Police Department, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, and a bystander who intervened. Reyes faces lifetime sex offender registration and a protective order.
