Adam Lopez Arraigned on Attempted Murder and Arson Charges Involving Law Enforcement Officers

This afternoon, Adam Lopez was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Allen Jose in Department 8B of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on multiple felony charges stemming from a violent and premeditated attack on two law enforcement officers and an attempted arson targeting the San Joaquin County Probation Office.

The charges filed against Mr. Lopez are as follows:


Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer – Penal Code §664/187(a)

Includes enhancements for great bodily injury and use of a deadly weapon (gasoline and a lighter).

Attempted Arson of an Inhabited Structure – Penal Code §664/451(b)

  • The defendant is accused of attempting to set fire to the San Joaquin County Probation Department.
  • Includes a deadly weapon enhancement for the use of gasoline and a lighter.

Resisting an Executive Officer by Force or Violence – Penal Code §69

This charge pertains to a second probation officer who was also injured during the incident.

 

The defendant has prior strike convictions, reflecting a history of serious criminal conduct. If convicted, Lopez faces a minimum sentence of 50 years to life, plus additional time for enhancements.

District Attorney Ron Freitas issued the following statement:

“Let me be clear: attacks on our law enforcement officers and efforts to burn down government institutions will not be tolerated in San Joaquin County. These acts were not random, they were targeted, deliberate, and violent. My office will prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. We stand firmly with the officers who put their lives on the line and will do everything in our power to hold this individual accountable.”

 

Lopez’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 25, 2025, at 8:30 AM in Department 8B of the San Joaquin County Superior Court. He is being held without bail.
