On September 29, 2025, the Honorable Judge Hoyt sentenced David Price II to 16 years and 8 months plus 95 years to life in prison—a total of 111 years and 8 months to life—for a violent shooting incident in Stockton.
On January 17, 2025, a jury found the defendant guilty of five counts of attempted murder (willful, deliberate, and premeditated), five counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, two counts of felony child abuse, two counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle, and felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found true several enhancements, including firearm use and great bodily injury.
On July 14, 2025, the court determined that the crimes were committed while the defendant was released on his own recognizance and that he had prior strikes. Following trial, motions for a new trial and a Romero motion (a request to dismiss a prior strike conviction) were denied. The court imposed 14 years to life for each attempted murder, consecutive terms for firearm enhancements, and the strike prior. Certain enhancements and charges were stayed under judicial discretion and PC 654.
On April 2, 2022, two parents and their daughters were driving to a family gathering in Weston Ranch. An unrelated 14-year-old boy was driving behind them.
As the vehicles traveled near Henry Long Blvd. and Estes St., the defendant—riding as a passenger in another car—pulled alongside and opened fire on both vehicles, striking the truck at least seven times and the family SUV at least five times. The family immediately recognized the defendant as a neighbor, though they had no prior disputes with him.
The shooting caused serious injuries. The 14-year-old boy sustained bleeding from his head. A bullet lodged directly behind the 11-year-old girl’s spine. The father was grazed by a bullet that lodged in his seat. The 9-year-old girl was struck in the face by a bullet but survived.
At the time of the shooting, the defendant was awaiting sentencing in San Francisco for illegally possessing a firearm during another shooting. He had been released on bail with his GPS ankle monitor removed and had been ordered to relinquish all firearms just 12 days before this attack. A known gang member from Oakland, the defendant had relocated to Stockton, where he continued his violent criminal behavior.
“Justice was served today with a sentence that reflects both the gravity of this crime and the danger this defendant posed to our community,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “This was a cold-blooded act of gang violence against a family and a young teenager who were simply on their way to a celebration. Our office will continue to stand with victims and ensure that violent offenders from other counties are held fully accountable for the devastation they cause in our community. San Joaquin County will not be a safe haven for criminals.”
