Naylor and Stewart Sentenced to 100 Years to Life and 80 Years to Life for Gang-Related Murder

On March 2, 2026, Dominique Naylor and Jeffery Stewart were sentenced by Judge Hoyt in Department 8A following their convictions at trial last November.

Naylor was sentenced to 100 years to Life in state prison. Stewart was sentenced to 80 years to Life in state prison.

On November 6, 2025, San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced that a jury found both defendants guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and first-degree burglary in connection with a deadly retaliatory ambush at a private residence on September 23, 2023.

The evidence at trial established that Naylor and Stewart, associates of the Sutter Street Crips criminal street gang, engaged in a premeditated conspiracy to kill rivals associated with the Norteno criminal street gang. On the night of the attack, the defendants forcibly entered a home at 416 E. Flora Street in Stockton while armed with firearms.

Four individuals were inside the residence. The defendants assaulted the occupants before Stewart opened fire inside a small bedroom, fatally shooting Daniel Juarez in the face as he slept in a recliner. The second victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, resulting in great bodily injury.

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office recognizes the dedicated work of Deputy District Attorney Theresa Stroud, who prosecuted the case with diligence and commitment to justice. She was supported by Victim Witness Advocates Isabella Cruz and Laura Reeves, who provided critical assistance and support to the victims and their families throughout the proceedings, as well as clerical support from Samantha Hills.

The investigation was led by Detective Anthony Cooper of the Stockton Police Department, whose thorough investigative work was instrumental in securing these convictions and sentences.

“These sentences send a clear message: if you bring violence into our neighborhoods, you will spend the rest of your life paying for it,” said Ron Freitas. “We will continue to aggressively prosecute gang-driven violence and stand with the victims and families whose lives are forever changed.”
