Convicted Felon Sentenced to 6 Years Following Major Narcotics and Firearms Seizure

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced that Joseph Estrada, a convicted felon, has been sentenced to six years in state prison following a substantial narcotics investigation.

The case originated in February 2026, when members of METRO served a search warrant at Estrada’s apartment. Upon entry, officers encountered Estrada, co-defendant Breanna Sanchez, and two minor children. A subsequent search of the residence uncovered eight kilograms of methamphetamine, as well as significant quantities of cocaine and marijuana.

While officers located one firearm, they also discovered several additional rounds of ammunition, extended magazines, and a firearm conversion kit.

Estrada entered a plea of guilty to possession of methamphetamine for sale (HS 11378) with a weight enhancement (HS 11370.4(b)(1)(A)), possession of a controlled substance for sale (HS 11351), and being a felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800). Co-defendant Breanna Sanchez also entered a plea to misdemeanor child endangerment.

"This conviction is a testament to the relentless work of our law enforcement partners who removed a significant quantity of dangerous drugs and illegal firearms from our streets," said District Attorney Ron Freitas. "Keeping these substances away from children and our neighborhoods remains a top priority. We are grateful for the expertise and bravery displayed by everyone involved in this operation."

District Attorney Freitas would like to extend a special thanks to METRO and the SPD SWAT team for their vital work in the safe execution of the warrant, and to Deputy District Attorney Melanie Eiges for her successful prosecution of this case.
