D’Angelo Webb has been sentenced to 74 years to life in state prison following his conviction for the first-degree murder of Brandi Hornsby and the violent attack on her mother, Tonya.

On September 30, 2021, Brandi Hornsby, who had given birth to her daughter approximately six weeks earlier, met with her sister. Webb, who was the father of Brandi’s infant daughter, was with her at the time.

The following day, Brandi’s mother, Tonya, attempted to contact her but was unable to reach her. Family members continued attempting to contact Brandi on October 1 and October 2 without success. Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Tonya asked her son to accompany her to Brandi’s residence to check on her.

When Tonya arrived at the residence and repeatedly knocked on the doors, Webb opened the door and immediately attacked her with a knife. He pulled Tonya toward the garage, where he repeatedly stabbed her and stomped on her head. Brandi’s brother arrived minutes later and heard his mother crying from inside the garage. He could see Tonya on the ground being assaulted by Webb. He forced his way into the residence, where Webb approached him holding a knife. Inside the home, Brandi’s infant daughter was lying on a couch crying. Webb grabbed the baby, fled the residence and stole Tonya’s vehicle.

Tonya sustained multiple stab wounds, including wounds to her neck and arms, as well as significant injuries from being stomped on. While inside the residence, family members discovered a suitcase in the kitchen and noticed the odor of decomposition. Brandi was found inside the suitcase. An investigation determined that she had been strangled and stabbed, causing her death. Webb fled the area following the attacks and was ultimately located at a family residence.

He was arrested and subsequently prosecuted for the crimes.

On November 22, 2024, following a jury trial before the Honorable Charlotte Orcutt, Webb was found guilty of:

• Penal Code § 187 – First-Degree Murder, with use of a knife
• Penal Code §§ 664/187 – Attempted Murder, with use of a knife
• Penal Code § 273.5 – Corporal Injury to a Spouse or Cohabitant, with use of a knife and great bodily injury
• Vehicle Code § 10851 – Unlawful Taking or Driving of a Vehicle
• Penal Code § 273(a) – Child Endangerment

Webb was sentenced to 74 years to life in state prison.

This sentence ensures that he will spend the rest of his life in prison and will never again inflict this kind of violence on another family. I commend Deputy District Attorney Janet Smith for her tireless work and successful prosecution of this case, and I am grateful to the jury for holding the Defendant accountable for his actions.”
